Music! Spring concerts!!

Hello All,
At long last we ironed out our scheduling conflicts and booked a second act for the spring! First, to explain what happened with the Ying Yang Twins... we booked them solid and had their management sign a contract saying they would come to W&M on March 29th. Lo and behold, however, another member of their management had signed another contract with another venue for the same date. Tragic! After seeing how popular the show was on facebook, we realized that we absolutely could not just say to hell with it and get our money back. Hence, we began trying to move that show to another date.
Meanwhile, our offer on Flight of the Concords was turned down (guess why?) because we didn't offer enough money. An opportunity suddenly presented itself- Gym Class Heroes was looking to add another date to their tour in the well-routed area of Virginia, and was willing to come to W&M for a VERY competitive price. Awesome! Once we received the official no from Flight of the Concords, we quickly finalized things with Gym Class Heroes for April 2nd, and then turned around and switched the date of Ying Yang to April 19th.
We're so sorry about any problems caused by the change of date. Our hands were kind of tied in the whole matter, so we were basically just doing anything we could to make sure we could still have the Twins come to W&M. And our hard work payed off!
Check either of the two facebook events or the UCAB website for ticket details. Students: get your combined ticket for both concerts at a discount price!

The chips you win paying casino games can be used to purchase raffle tickets for a variety of great prizes. We'll also start showing GoldenEye at 10:30 and mocktails will be served all night. Hope to see everyone there!

Music!

Greetings, all!
Happy tidings from your Music Committee Chairwoman. I hope you've all been enjoying sand, sun, and some r&r over your spring breaks. The music committee has been busy! We're still negotiating with bands to perform at our second Lake Matoaka show this spring. We had put in an offer to Sri Lankan-born British rapper M.I.A., and after long and arduous negotiations her management finally told us she was not interested. How frustrating! We were really excited about that possibility, but between the dates we had to offer and our low price it just didn't work out.
Following that disappointment we put in an offer to Band of Horses, a band that has been receiving a ton of press lately, but our $30k offer was much lower than their asking price of $50k. That was a short lived negotiation; essentially we just couldn't pay what they wanted.
We are hopeful that our latest offer will be accepted, and as soon as we hear back definitively I'll be on the blog again, keeping you all updated!
Thanks for tuning in,
Jeanna O.
